Family 19-b
Some horses have the “look of eagles.” Beautiful Pleasure’s look was more “Hmmph! And who do you think you are?” Unlike many with that attitude, she could back it up. Possessed of speed and staying ability in addition to her tough disposition, she earned an American championship in the older female category in 1999 and was a finalist in that same category in 2000. She was a better racer than broodmare.

Assessments
Highweighted at 125 pounds on the Daily Racing Form’s Free Handicap for American older females of 1999, 1 pound above second-rated Banshee Breeze.
Rated at 121 pounds in the Mile and Intermediate categories on the 2000 International Classifications for runners aged 4 and up, 13 pounds below overall highweight Dubai Millennium and 4 pounds below the top older filly or mare, Riboletta.
As an individual
A good-sized, strongly made, powerful bay mare, Beautiful Pleasure had a tough, highly dominant disposition. She generally preferred cruising on or close to the lead in her races. She handled both fast and sloppy-fast surfaces well but did not like deep going. She had a habit of drifting out when tiring.
As a producer
Beautiful Pleasure produced seven named foals, of which five raced and three won. Her best runner was Grade 1-placed Dr. Pleasure (by Thunder Gulch). Her 2004 daughter To Dream About (by Monarchos) never raced but is the dam of 2017 Del Mar Oaks (USA-G1) winner Dream Dancing (by Tapit; dam of stakes winner Dreamaway, by Flameaway) and is also the second dam of Kimbear, a Group 2 winner in Dubai.
Connections
Foaled in Florida, Beautiful Pleasure was bred by Farnsworth Farm. She was owned by John C. Oxley, who bought her for US$480,000 from the 1997 Keeneland April sale of 2-year-olds in training. She was trained by John T. Ward Jr. She was ridden regularly by Jorge Chavez. As a broodmare, she was maintained at Oxley's Fawn Leap Farm. She was euthanized due to chronic laminitis on August 11, 2011.
Pedigree notes
Sired by the multiple Grade 3-winning sprinter Maudlin (by Foolish Pleasure), Beautiful Pleasure is inbred 5x5 to five-time American champion sire Nasrullah, also the English/Irish champion sire of 1951. She is a full sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Mecke and a half sister to multiple stakes winner Jeb (by Jeblar; dam of multiple stakes winner Jeb’s Wild, by Wild Again).
Beautiful Pleasure is out of Beautiful Bid, an unraced half sister to multiple stakes winner Nikki Winfield (by Diplomat Way; dam of Grade 3-placed stakes winner Legs Galore, by Ogygian). She is a half sister to stakes-placed Fortunate Bid (by Lucky Debonair), dam of multiple listed stakes winner Fortunate Prospect (by Northern Prospect), listed stakes winner Fritzie Bey (by Diplomat Way; dam of restricted stakes winner Fritzie’s Prospect, by Prospector Jones), and minor stakes winners Rosie’s Way (by Diplomat Way) and Toots La Mae (by Danzig Connection; dam of restricted stakes winners Toot’s Tonya, by Mining, and Mo Hotta Mo Betta, by Unbridled). Beautiful Bid is also a half sister to Faithful Diplomacy (by Diplomat Way), dam of restricted stakes winner Ethereal Moment (by Super Moment)
Beautiful Bid is out of unraced Biddy Big, whose sire Palestinian (by Sun Again) won the 1951 Brooklyn Handicap among other good races and placed in all three Triple Crown races in 1949. Produced from the winner Spoony (Devil Diver x Bimlette), Biddy Big is a half sister to 1967 San Marino Handicap winner Acknowledge (by Stymie). She is also a half sister to So Whats New (by Stymie), third dam of Japanese Group 3 winner Dictar Land.
