Kentucky Oaks trivia challenge

5/5/2016

In honor of the Longines Kentucky Oaks (USA-I), I'm posting a five-question trivia challenge. Let's see if anyone can get all these right by post time! (In the spirit of fair play, note that you'll have to search outside my website to answer these questions.)

1) In the history of the Kentucky Oaks, only three mares have produced multiple winners of the race. Name them and their Oaks-winning progeny.

2) While no filly has ever completed the Kentucky Oaks/Kentucky Derby double, three Oaks winners have placed in the Run for the Roses. Name them.

3) Name the only filly to win both the Kentucky Oaks and the Canadian Oaks (now the Woodbine Oaks).

4) As just about everyone who's been paying attention knows, Kentucky Oaks favorite Rachel's Valentina is the daughter of 2008 victress Rachel Alexandra. What Oaks winner is the granddam of another of the Oaks starters?

5) Only one Kentucky Oaks winner has produced a winner of one of the major European Classic races. Name her and her Classic-winning son.

Enjoy!

#2 I know off the top of my head that Viva America won the Oaks and finished 3rd in the Kentucky Derby.

I know #4. Weep No More. Her 2nd dam is Flute.

Andrea, you've got #4 nailed. Ron, so far so good---Viva America is one of the three.

One of the answers to #1 would be Blue Delight. She produced full sisters by Bull Lea named Real Delight and Bubbly who both won the Kentucky Oaks. By cover of Heliopolis she produced Princess Turia, who also won the Oaks.

Have to think some more about the other mares with multiple Oaks winning daughters...
