This American leading sire had at least seven male champions or Classic winners among his descendants but passed his own fertility issues along as well, resulting in the failure of his male line in spite of its obvious quality. Name him.

Very intriguing, as you would think a leading sire line would carry on. Man O' War comes to mind.

Man o' War's male line, while slender, is alive and well (Tiznow is the top living sire from this line); also, Big Red wasn't subfertile. The top sire in question is St. Germans, whose subfertile or sterile male-line descendants include Assault, Bold Venture, Top Knight, Middleground, Twenty Grand and Malacate. His maternal grandson Capot was also affected.

Thanks for the Trivia answer and for the interesting facts. St Germans goes back a while.
