A full sister to a first-rate race mare in Idlewild, Aerolite never raced but proved the worth of her bloodlines as a broodmare. She became a foundation mare for A. J. Alexander's Woodburn Stud and wielded considerable influence on 19th-century American breeding and racing, particularly through her champion son Spendthrift.

Pedigree notes
Aerolite's pedigree is outcrossed through five generations. She is a full sister to Idlewild, a notable racer whose victories included the 1861 Woodlawn Challenge Stakes. Idlewild later produced the good stakes winners Fanchon and Wildidle to covers by Australian.
Aerolite and Idlewild were produced from the Glencoe mare Florine, who in turn is out of Melody, a daughter of the once-defeated American Eclipse horse Medoc. The female line traces back to an unnamed daughter of imported Medley (dam unknown) and cannot be connected to any of the Bruce Lowe families.
