Beyond the Waves was one of those frustrating horses who has talent but more often than not can’t or won’t punch through to victory. She racked up eight stakes placings against one stakes win while racing, and as a broodmare had a creditable record during her first eight years in the paddocks without coming up with anything stellar. That changed with her eighth foal to live, Bricks and Mortar, who in 2019 overcame physical setbacks to earn the golden Eclipse Award as the American Horse of the Year. His accomplishments earned his dam a national Broodmare of the Year title; ironically, she never produced another winner from four more foals. As of August 2025, none of her daughters have produced a stakes winner.
