Foaled in Kentucky, Bimlette was bred by Colonel Edward Riley Bradley's Idle Hour Stock Farm. She was owned by John R. Bradley, who inherited the filly on his brother's death in August 1946. She was trained by J. W. Smith. When Bradley's horses were purchased by the partnership of Ogden Phipps, Robert Kleberg and John Hay Whitney, Bimlette was among the share of horses taken by Whitney and remained the property of his Greentree Stud for the rest of her life.
