Connections
Foaled in Kentucky, Bostonian was bred and owned by Harry Payne Whitney. He was trained by Fred Hopkins. He was sold to Alex B. Gordon after his racing career. Gordon, in turn, sold Bostonian to Calumet Farm in 1936. Bostonian stood the next five seasons there before being leased to Ira Drymon's Gallaher Farm.
Pedigree notes
Bostonian is inbred 5x5 to four-time American champion sire Leamington. He is a full brother to 1929 Travers Midsummer Derby winner Beacon Hill and 1930 Pimlico Oaks winner Flimsy, second dam of Ascot Gold Vase winner Faux Pas. He is also a half brother to the good steeplechaser Gay Charles (by Blondin) and to Lima (by Peace Chance), dam of stakes winner The Driller (by Andy K.) and second dam of stakes winner Fastness.
Bostonian's dam Yankee Maid is a full sister to Purling, second dam of multiple juvenile stakes winner Caterwaul. She is also a half sister to minor stakes winner Vermont (by Broomstick). Her dam Yankee Girl (by Sir Dixon) won the 1907 Ladies' Handicap and is a full sister to 1906 Alabama Stakes winner Running Water and a half sister to 1914 Alabama Stakes winner and 1915 Ladies' Handicap winner Addie M. (by Star Shoot). Produced from the Hindoo mare Breakwater, a full sister to stakes winners Savarin and Howland, Yankee Girl is also a half sister to Christmas Star (by Star Shoot), dam of 1926 Travers Stakes winner Mars (by Man o' War) and multiple juvenile stakes winner Escoba (by Broomstick).
