Produced from a family noted for its prominence in regional breeding in the Pacific Northwest, Brocco vaulted into the national spotlight with a powerful victory in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (USA-G1). A second-place run in the Hollywood Futurity (USA-G1) cost him the chance to unseat Dehere as the divisional champion, but the big chestnut colt went into winter quarters as a hot prospect for the 1994 Kentucky Derby (USA-G1). Victory in the Santa Anita Derby (USA-G1) sent him to Kentucky as one of the favorites, but he ended up fourth behind Go for Gin and raced only once more before injury ended his career. He proved a poor sire in the United States, Australia, and Japan.
