A much younger half sister to Argentine champion El Centauro. Cephei was destined for greatness in the breeding shed rather than on the racetrack. The dam of an Argentine Horse of the Year and an additional Argentine Classic winner, she was named the Argentine Broodmare of the Year in 1990. Fun facts
- “Cephei” is a star name designating membership in a class of variable stars that have regular variations in luminosity. These stars are used as benchmarks for scaling galactic and extragalactic distances. The namesake for this type of variable star is Delta Cephei, a star in the Northern Hemisphere constellation Cepheus. Oddly enough, Delta Cephei, which was initially observed by John Goodricke on October 19, 1774, was not the first Cepheid variable to be detected; on September 10, 1774, Edgar Pigott detected the variable nature of the star Eta Aquilae (in the Northern Hemisphere constellation Aquila), which is also now classed as a Cepheid variable.
