Sired by the Neapolis horse Penitente, he was produced from Delicada, whose dam Delicacy (by the Cesarewitch Stakes winner Cardinal York) was imported to Argentina from England in 1881. The next dam in the tail-female line, the Beadsman mare Mulberry, also produced Immortelle, the third dam of 1908 Irish Derby winner Wild Bouquet and the ancestress of the important sires Black Servant, Blue Larkspur, Relic and Raise a Native.
