Carson City (USA) x Baby Zip (USA), by Relaunch (USA)
Family 23-b
City Zip was a top juvenile, but he had no pretensions of staying more than a mile and was better at shorter distances. He was also somewhat back at the knee, conformation that many buyers avoid. Thus, he entered stud in New York rather than Kentucky, moving to the latter state only after his half brother Ghostzapper completed an American Horse of the Year season in 2004. To nearly everyone's surprise, City Zip turned out to be a remarkably versatile stallion who sired everything from top dirt sprinters to staying turf runners.
Race record

Assessments
Rated at 121 pounds on the Experimental Free Handicap for American juveniles of 2000, 5 pounds below champion Macho Uno.
As an individual
A 16-hand chestnut, City Zip was lengthy with a good shoulder and a beautifully made hind leg but had the slightly back-at-the-knee conformation commonly seen in Relaunch's descendants. An intelligent and sensible horse, he was a favorite with Lane's End staff.
As a stallion
According to records compiled by The Jockey Club, City Zip sired 906 winners (69.4%) and 91 stakes winners (7.0%) from 1306 named foals of racing age. City Zip's progeny often had a measure of precocity but usually trained on well and were often better as they matured. Many showed a liking for turf.

Fun facts
- City Zip was the first juvenile since Dehere in 1993 to sweep Saratoga's current trio of important stakes for juveniles—the Sanford Stakes, Saratoga Special and Hopeful Stakes--and was the fourth to complete this triple. The others were Regret in 1914 and Campfire in 1916.
