Come and Go showed good form early in 1945, but that was about all that could be said for her racing career. She was not one of the more distinguished winners of the Kentucky Oaks, and she did not add to her laurels as a broodmare, though in fairness, this was partly due to indifferent opportunities.
Race record
19 starts, 5 wins, 2 seconds, 3 thirds, US$15,715
1945:
As an individual
A chestnut mare; no further information available.
As a producer
Come and Go produced five named foals. All started and won, but the only one to earn black type was stakes-placed Falada (by Balladier). Only one of Come and Go's daughters ever produced a foal, and that foal died without issue.
Connections
Come and Go was bred and owned by Thomas Piatt. She was trained by J. Price Sallee and was ridden to her Kentucky Oaks win by C. L. Martin.
Pedigree notes
Come and Go is inbred 5x5 to 1867 Derby Stakes winner and seven-time English champion sire Hermit. A daughter of 1930 Hopeful Stakes winner Epithet (a son of the brilliant French import Épinard), she was the last foal of Set Fast and the only one to achieve any distinction.
Set Fast herself never raced and was produced from the McGee mare Vista, whose full sister Rose of Roses produced multiple stakes winners Rhinock (by Prince Pal) and Rose Eternal (by Eternal; dam of stakes winner Eternal Bull, by Bull Dog). The next dam in Come and Go's tail-female line, Parkview (by Hamburg) is a half sister to 1921 Brooklyn Handicap winner Cirrus (by Tracery) and is out of 1901 Alabama Stakes winner Morningside (by Meddler), a full sister to multiple stakes winner Previous.
Books and media
Come and Go is profiled in Chapter 7 of Avalyn Hunter's American Classic Pedigrees 1914-2002 (2003, Eclipse Press).
