Bred for miler speed, Crescent lived up to that heritage as one of the best Argentine sprinters of her day. Following her racing career, she lived up to the heritage of her strong English family by becoming an important Argentine foundation mare whose descendants remain influential throughout South America.

Crescent was bred by J. A. and Miguel Martínez de Hoz at their Haras Chapadmalal. Following her racing career, she became a foundation mare for Haras Comalal. Her last known foal, Selenio (by Sideral) was produced in 1967.

Crescent is inbred 5x5 to the good Cup horse Hampton, the English champion sire of 1887, and to the important English matron Black Duchess (by 1883 Two Thousand Guineas winner Galliard). Crescent is also inbred 5x5 to nine-time English champion sire St. Simon, an unbeaten racehorse whose victories included the 1884 Ascot Gold Cup. Crescent is a half sister to Matyoka (by Winterhalter), whose great-granddaughter Lola Montes III won the 1962 Premio Miguel Angel y Tomas Juarez Celman and whose great-grandson Moron won the 1978 Premio General Belgrano (ARG-G2).

Fun facts
- Crescent produced two foals named “Moonray” during her producing career. One was a 1952 son of English Triple Crown winner Bahram; the other was a 1966 daughter of Sideral. Both were winners, but neither had any lasting importance.
