Black Gold's tale is one of the most romantic and most tragic stories in the history of the Kentucky Derby. The truth behind the legend is even stranger, encompassing a dead man's dream, a widow's determination to bring the last vision of the man she loved to life, and the entwined destinies of a bush-league trainer and a journeyman jockey bound together by their love for an extraordinary Thoroughbred—a horse that took them to both the golden heights and the dark depths of horse racing in the 1920s.
