One of the great foundation mares of Argentine breeding, Empiric came from relatively modest antecedents but became a fountain of class for Haras Abolengo in spite of producing only six foals. Fortunately, five of those foals were fillies, and they bred on with excellent success. The ancestress of at least seven champions in Argentina, Peru, South Africa, and Zimbabwe within four generations, Empiric stands at the head of a matriarchy that continues to have widespread influence in the Southern Hemisphere.

Pedigree notes
Sired by Voodoo, Empiric is inbred 5x4 to the great English matriarch Selene (a two-time champion on the race course) and 5x5 to two-time English/Irish champion sire Son-in-Law. She is a half sister to stakes-placed Eyebright (by Timor), the dam of multiple Argentine Group 3 winner Brown Eyes (by Minera) and the third dam of Argentine Group 2 winner Blinking Champ and Brazilian Group 3 winner Leap of Equilia. Empiric is also a half sister to Realisima (by Timor), dam of stakes winner Royaute (by Carapalida), and to The Begum (by Timor), second dam of Argentine Group 2 winner Cara Mia and Argentine Group 3 winner Cuore Mio and third dam of Argentine Grade 3 winner Speedy Toss.
Empiric is out of the winner Empress (by British Empire), who is out of the Hunter’s Moon mare Havoc. The female line came to Argentina through Havoc’s dam Lady Wood (by Foxlaw), who was sent to Argentina from England in 1937. Lady Wood, in turn, was produced from Benevente (by Polymelus), who defeated the colts in the 1917 Middle Park Stakes, at the time considered something of a championship race for English juveniles. A full sister to 1913 Middle Park Stakes winner Corcyra and to Pomace, the dam of 1921 St. Leger Stakes winner Polemarch (by The Tetrarch; an important sire and broodmare sire in Argentina), Benevente was produced from Pearmain, by the champion racehorse and sire Persimmon.
