Although First Flush was a half sister to five stakes winners, including an American Horse of the Year and a juvenile champion, she could not get out of her own way as a race mare. Her best qualities were reserved for the paddocks, where she produced three stakes winners. 13 of her 14 daughters became producers, and their contributions to American racing and breeding helped make First Flush an often-underappreciated modern foundation mare.
