First Page was perhaps the most distinguished of the six stakes winners sired by 1939 Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes winner Johnstown, which was not saying a great deal. The Kentucky Oaks was her only stakes victory in 40 starts, and she did not distinguish herself as a broodmare.
Race record
40 starts, 7 wins, 8 seconds, 7 thirds, US$30,810
1946:
1947:
As an individual
A dark bay mare; no other information available.
As a producer
First Page produced 10 named foals, of which all 10 started and seven won. Two, Sunday Star (by Alsab) and Mrs. Jo Jo (by Andre), were stakes-placed, and the latter is the second dam of Panamanian Group 2 winner Hargrave.
Connections
First Page was bred by William Woodward's Belair Stud. She was owned by Dr. Harry G. Jones and was trained by C. A. Bidencope. She was ridden to her Kentucky Oaks win by J. R. Layton. She remained in Jones' ownership throughout her broodmare career and produced her last foal, the Andre filly Mrs. Jo Jo, in 1966.
Pedigree notes
First Page is outcrossed through five generations but is the produce of two inbred parents, as Johnstown is 4x4 to 1904 Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby) and Grand Prix de Paris winner Ajax while Cozy Time is 3x3 to two-time American Horse of the Year Commando and 4x4x3x4 to his sire, 1893 American Horse of the Year Domino. First Page is a half sister to Tete-a-Tete (by Sir Gallahad III), dam of juvenile stakes winner Ripte (by Rippey).
First Page's dam Cozy Time is a half sister to Thoughtless Beauty (by Disguise), dam of juvenile stakes winner All Upset (by Upset), and to Felisa (by Toro), third dam of 1951 Del Mar Debutante Stakes winner Tonga (by Polynesian) and ancestress of a fine Canadian family that includes the great matriarch No Class and her progeny. The next dam in First Page's tail-female line, Coquette (by Celt) won three stakes races and is a full sister to 1916 Ladies' Handicap winner Celandria. Coquette is also a half sister to Adrienne (by His Majesty), dam of juvenile stakes winner Adria (by Hourless) and second dam of the great Discovery.
Books and media
First Page is profiled in Chapter 7 of Avalyn Hunter's American Classic Pedigrees 1914-2002 (2003, Eclipse Press).

Fun facts
- First Page may have been lucky to make it to the Oaks starting gate, as she came out of her prep race, the Ashland Stakes, with her right eye nearly swollen shut from where it had been struck (presumably by a dirt clod) during the race, In addition, her ankles were cut up and she had bruising on her hips.
