French Deputy showed evidence of marked talent, but he was not a very sound horse and was forced into retirement early by injury. After five years at stud in Kentucky, he was exported to Japan, leaving behind 2002 American champion older male Left Bank. He is also the sire of Japanese champions Kurofune and Sound True but has earned a greater reputation as a sire of broodmares than of winners.
Race record
6 starts, 4 wins, 1 second, 1 third, US$195,200
1995:
As an individual
A muscular, handsome chestnut horse with an excellent shoulder and powerful hindquarters, French Deputy was rather light of bone below the knee but had short cannons.

According to statistics compiled by The Jockey Club, French Deputy sired 933 winners (64.8%) and 52 stakes winners (3.6%) from 1438 named foals of racing age.
