When he was sent to stud in Chile, Gallantsky had nothing to recommend him but his royal pedigree and his status as a half brother to Italian Group I winner King of Clubs. The failed French racer made good as a stallion, siring at least 33 stakes winners and seven champions in his adopted country.

Foaled in Kentucky, Gallantsky was bred by Jane Mannheimer Englehard, widow of Nijinsky II's owner Charles W. Englehard, Jr. The colt sold for US$100,000 at the 1977 Keeneland July yearling sale and was sent to France soon afterward. Gallantsky was exported to Chile in 1981, where he stood at Haras Santa Olga near San Fernando. He died in late April 2004.

Produced from 1966 American champion 3-year-old filly Lady Pitt (by Sword Dancer), Gallantsky's dam Queen Pot is a full sister to Bank of England, dam of Grade III winner Comptroller and third dam of 1996 Buick Meadowlands Gold Cup Handicap (USA-I) winner Dramatic Gold. She is also a half sister to 1979 Brooklyn Handicap (USA-I) winner The Liberal Member (by Bold Reason) and to multiple Grade II winner Blitey (by Riva Ridge). The last-named mare produced multiple Grade I winner Dancing Spree (by Nijinsky II), 1990 Hempstead Handicap (USA-I) winner Fantastic Find (by Mr. Prospector), 1999 Ballerina Stakes (USA-I) winner Furlough (by Easy Goer) and Grade II winner Dancing All Night (by Nijinsky II) and became a foundation mare for the Phipps family's breeding program.
