Gene de Campeão won three Brazilian championships on the strength of three Group 1 wins at São Paulo’s Cidade Jardim track. After running ninth in his final Brazilian start, the Grande Prêmio Brasil (BRZ-G1), he was sent to the United States. He showed decent form in California but came away with only two stakes placings before being sent back to Brazil, where he was a stud failure.

He returned to Brazil following his racing career. As a stallion, he was owned by Antonio de Toledo Lara Neto. His last known foal was registered in 2010.

He is a full brother to 2003 Grande Prêmio Barão de Piracicaba (BRZ-G1) winner Hiper Vencedora and a half brother to 2004 Grande Premio Consagração winner Instinto Campeão (by Ze de Ouro).
Zarzamora, the dam of Gene de Campeao, was awarded the Mossoró Trophy as the 2002/03 Brazilian Broodmare of the Year. During her own racing career, she won the 1996 Grande Prêmio Organização Sulamericana de Fomento ao Puro Sangue de Corrida (BRZ-G1). She is a full sister to multiple Brazilian Group 1 winner E Vencedora, dam of Brazilian listed stakes winner Show (by Top Hat) and second dam of Brazilian Group 3 winner Zeze Corredor.
Zarzamora and E Vencedora are out of Kifantazia, a winning daughter of 1969 Grande Prêmio Antenor Lara Campos winner Clouet. Kifantazia, in turn, is out of the Argentine-bred mare Hepburn, by the stakes-winning Nearco horse Hyphen out of Manada (by 1949 Middle Park Stakes winner Masked Light).
