A US$3,500 auction yearling, Gourmet Girl proved to be one of the great bargains of the turf, retiring as a millionaire. Although she earned her championship in a rather weak year for the older female division, there was nothing second-rate about her. Consistent and honest, she improved with age and defeated the best field of older distaffers of 2001 in the Apple Blossom Handicap (USA-G1) in a bravura performance. She was a much better racer than producer.

As an individual
A dark bay or brown mare, Gourmet Girl was at her best when put on the lead or close to the pace. She was not as effective on turf as on the dirt. She also had a quirk of changing leads if struck even lightly with the whip.
As a producer
Gourmet Girl produced eight named foals, of which six started and two won. Her best runner was Luxury Class (by Gone West), who placed in two stakes races. None of her daughters have achieved any note as producers.
Connections
Foaled in California, Gourmet Girl was bred by Carl Cannata and Olivia Cannata (CA). A US$3,500 purchase from the 1996 California Thoroughbred Sales August yearling sale, she was owned by Massengale, Massengale Sr., and Sledge Stable at 2 and 3; later owned by Gary A. Tanaka, who purchased the filly privately early in her 4-year-old season. She was trained by Alcides Pico Perdomo throughout her career. Sent to the 2002 Keeneland November mixed sale, in foal to Fusaichi Pegasus, Gourmet Girl sold for US$2.2 million to Courtlandt Farm. There is no report of her in the produce records following the birth of her 2011 filly, Grand Elmendorf (by A.P. Indy).
Pedigree notes:
Gourmet Girl is inbred 5x4 to 1945 Two Thousand Guineas winner Court Martial. She is a half sister to Grade 1-placed Northern Mischief (by Yankee Victor), dam of 2018 Maktoum Challenge Round 3 (UAE-G1) winner North America (by Dubawi). She is also a half sister to Miss Carrera (by Memo), dam of multiple restricted stakes winner Missap (by A. P. Warrior).
Rhodaling, the dam of Gourmet Girl, was Group 3-placed as a juvenile in Ireland. She was produced from Touch of Class (by four-time French champion sire Luthier), a half sister to multiple Group 3 winner Kebir (by Bolkonski). Touch of Class is also a half sister to Princesse Theve (by Crowned Prince), dam of multiple Peruvian stakes winner Los Alamitos (by Lydian) and second dam of Peruvian Group 2 winner Beatrice Russo.
