In the 1962 Preakness Stakes, Greek Money withstood a punishing stretch drive and being repeatedly fouled to defeat Ridan by a nose, with Kentucky Derby winner Decidedly and eventual Belmont Stakes winner and divisional champion Jaipur unplaced behind him. It was the highlight of his career, as he won several other stakes but none at the same class level. He was an indifferent sire.

As an individual
A chestnut horse standing close to 16 hands, Greek Money was determined and game at his best but did not stand hard races close together. He was nervous and jumpy as a juvenile but became calmer as he matured. During a race, he could be placed as his jockey desired.
As a stallion
According to records kept by The Jockey Club, Greek Money sired 102 stakes winners (60.4%) and six stakes winners (3.5%) from 169 named foals. None of his runners had anything close to his own ability.
Connections
Foaled in Virginia, Greek Money was bred by Donald P. Ross in the name of Renappi Corp. (VA) which Ross owned with his wife Wilhemina duPont Ross. He was owned by Ross's Brandywine Stable and was trained by Virgil W. "Buddy" Raines.

He is also a half brother to Even Out (by Swaps), dam of Grade 3-placed stakes winners See the U. S. A. (by For the Road) and Odd Man (by Round Table) and second dam of Grade 3 winner I'm So Bad.

Fun facts
- Although Ridan appeared to have come over onto Greek Money repeatedly during the Preakness Stakes stretch run, Ridan's jockey Manuel Ycaza claimed foul. It proved a mistake. After reviewing films of the stretch run, which showed both Ridan failing to maintain a straight course and Ycaza throwing an elbow into the ribs of jockey John Rotz on Greek Money in the final stride, the stewards not only upheld the result but handed Ycaza an indefinite suspension. Ycaza ended up serving a 30-day suspension for the rough ride plus paying a fine of US$200 for what the stewards termed a “frivolous” foul claim.
- Ycaza's foul claim against Greek Money was the first placed against a Preakness winner in the history of the race.
- During his visit to Pimlico for the Preakness Stakes, both Greek Money's owner, Donald P. Ross, and trainer Buddy Raines carried Greek coins that had been given to them as good-luck charms by Ross' sister-in-law, Mrs. Hallock duPont.
- Greek Money disliked gray horses and would repeatedly try to bite if one was in range. His distaste for grays was strong enough that his trainer had to get rid of a gray stable pony to keep his stable star happy.
