High Strung was one of the best examples of High Time's ability to get high-class juveniles and is generally acknowledged as the American champion 2-year-old male of 1928. Unfortunately, he also demonstrated High Time's tendency to get horses that failed to train on well, usually due to unsoundness. He sired a few stakes winners from rather limited opportunities but nothing of exceptional merit.

Pedigree notes
High Strung is inbred 4x5 to Springfield. His dam Emotion won the 1922 Test Stakes but died shortly after producing him. She is a full sister to the stakes-winning gelding Flat Iron and to Heloise, dam of six stakes winners including 1935 American champion 2-year-old male Tintagel (by Sir Gallahad III) and 1938 Matron Stakes and Spinaway Stakes winner Dinner Date (by Stimulus). Emotion is also a half sister to the stakes-winning gelding Sanford (by Sir Martin); to 1930 Alabama Stakes winner Escutcheon (by Stimulus), dam of three stakes winners and a notable matron in her own right; and to the important producer Hug Again (by Stimulus).
Emotion and her siblings are out of the Isidor mare Affection, whose dam One I Love (by Minting) won four stakes races as a juvenile and is a half sister to Thankful Blossom (by Paradox), third dam of 1924 American co-champion 3-year-old filly Nellie Morse and of Calumet Farm's great stallion Bull Lea. The next dam in Emotion's tail-female line, The Apple (by Hermit), is out of the Forerunner mare Black Star, a granddaughter of the noted 19th-century race mare and foundation mare Maid of Masham.
