Igual was so sickly as a foal that she was on the verge of being put down before a stifle abscess was discovered. After the abscess was drained and treated, Igual made progress and eventually grew into a healthy mare, though she was never put in training. As a broodmare, she gained the stardom that had been denied her on the racetrack. Her three stakes winners include 1946 American Triple Crown winner Assault, and she is the main conduit for the family of Mahubah, dam of the immortal Man o’ War.

In addition, Incandescent is a half sister to Burning Bright (by Whichone), dam of 1949 Santa Anita Handicap and Suburban Handicap winner Vulcan’s Forge (by Mahmoud) and 1946 Oaklawn Handicap winner Lights Abeam (by Bel Aethel).
Masda, the granddam of Igual, is a full sister to Man o’ War, still considered the best American racehorse of the 20th century by many experts. Sired by Fair Play from Mahubah (by Rock Sand) and with more than her share of the devilish temperament of her paternal grandsire Hastings, Masda won a minor stakes race and is also a full sister to 1924 Jockey Club Gold Cup winner My Play.
