As a non-winning daughter of a disappointing sire, Kossanova was a likely candidate for the bargain basement at the 2000 Keeneland November sale. Sold as a horse of racing age for US$9,000 she was exported to Chile. There, she proved a rare bargain indeed for Haras Paso Nevado. Winless in three starts in the United States, she won four straight races at Santiago and was second in her final start, a non-blacktype stakes race. Nonetheless, her true value was not seen until she entered the broodmare ranks. There, she joined the select club of broodmares who have produced four or more Grade/Group 1 winners, marking her as one of the elite producers in Chilean history.
Race record

Connections
Foaled in Kentucky, Kossanova was bred by Calumet Farm. She was purchased from the 2020 Keeneland November sale by Agricola Paso Nevado and exported to Chile. She was owned by Haras Paso Nevado throughout her broodmare career. Her last foal, the Verrazano filly Koldikova, arrived in 2017.
Pedigree notes
Sired by 1990 American champion 2-year-old male Fly So Free, Kossanova is inbred 4x4 to two-time American Horse of the Year Native Dancer and to 1955 American Horse of the Year Nashua. She is the only foal of significance produced from the winning Mr. Prospector mare Kossakowna, whose Alydar half sister Lotta Dancing won the 1996 Affectionately Handicap (USA-G3) and produced 2004 Super Derby (USA-G2) winner Fantasticat (by Storm Cat). Lotta Dancing is also the second dam of six stakes winners including 2013 Triple Bend Handicap (USA-G1) winner Centralinteligence.
Returning to Kossakowna, she is also a half sister to multiple Japanese listed stakes winner Mambo Twist (by Kingmambo) and to listed stakes winner Moonee Ponds (by Mizzen Mast). In addition, she is a half sister to Ravine Rose (by Gulch), dam of Venezuelan listed stakes winner King Angelus (by Keep Thinking).
Kossakowna and her siblings were produced from 1986 Acorn Stakes (USA-G1) winner Lotka (by Danzig), a full sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Stephan’s Odyssey. Produced by Kennelot (by Gallant Man x Queen Sucree and so a half sister to 1974 Kentucky Derby, USA-G1, winner Cannonade, Grade 3 winner Circle Home, and two other stakes winners), Lotka is also a full sister to Le Grand Epic, whose grandson Senior Senator was a top timber horse who won both the Maryland Hunt Cup and the Grand National Timber Stakes three times each, and a half sister to Nicole Mon Amour (by Bold Bidder), dam of multiple Irish listed stakes winner Cielamour (by Conquistador Cielo).
