Lahudood (GB)

March 2, 2003 – Living

Singspiel (IRE) x Rahayeb (GB), by Arazi (USA)

Family 2-f
A perennial bridesmaid in Group company in France as a 3-year-old, Lahudood fared better when transferred to the United States, though she took until her final two starts to put everything together. After scoring an upset win on firm going in the Flower Bowl Handicap (USA-G1), she wheeled back around and captured the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (USA-G1) over an extremely soft course. Those two wins were enough to land her an Eclipse Award in the American turf female division. She was a moderately successful broodmare during her own producing career and left an excellent broodmare daughter in Aghareed.

Race record

12 starts, 4 wins, 5 seconds, 1 thirds, US$1,695,370 (includes converted French earnings)

2006:
  • Won Prix de Liancourt (FR-L, 1800mT, Longchamp)
  • 2nd Prix de Malleret (FR-G2, 2400mT, Saint-Cloud)
  • 2nd Prix de Royallieu Hotel Hermitage Barriere de la Baute (FR-G2, 2500mT, Longchamp)
  • 2nd Prix de Psyche (FR-G3, 2000mT, Deauville)

As an individual

  • Aghareed (2009, by Kingmambo) won the 2012 Prix de Liancourt (FR-L). She is the dam of 2022 European Horse of the Year Baaeed (by Sea the Stars), multiple Group 1 winner Hukum (by Sea the Stars), 2026 Classic Trial Stakes (ENG-G3) winner Raaheeb (by Sea the Stars), and listed stakes winner Naqeeb (by Nathaniel).

Connections

Foaled in Kentucky, Lahudood was bred by Shadwell Estate Company and was owned by Shadwell Stable. She was trained by John E. Hammond in France and by Kiaran McLaughlin in the United States. In her win in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf, she was ridden by Alan Garcia. She remained the property of Shadwell Farm throughout her broodmare career and was pensioned after being reported barren in 2022.
