Family 9-f
A great-granddaughter of 1968 Kentucky Broodmare of the Year Delta, Magnificient Style was a nice filly while racing at 3 in Europe but had much less success when racing in North America as a 4-year-old. After her retirement from the race course, she continued the family tradition of great broodmares by producing eight stakes winners, including three Group 1 winners on the flat in Europe as well as a top-level hurdler.
Race record
11 starts, 2 wins, 3 seconds, 2 thirds, US$73,883 (including converted English earnings)
1996:
As an individual
A bay, Magnificient Style did not race as a juvenile. She was at her best at about 10 furlongs but lacked the brilliant turn of foot of a top-class horse and depended on her ability to produce a sustained run for her successes.
As a producer
Magnificient Style has produced 13 named foals of racing age, of which 12 have started and 10 have won. Her important foals are as follow:
Connections
Foaled in Florida, Magnificient Style was bred by Buckram Oak Farm and raced for Buckram Oak Holdings. She was trained by the late Henry Cecil, who was knighted in 2011 for his contributions to English horse racing. Magnificient Style was sold to Swettenham Stud as a broodmare or racing prospect for US$410,000 at the 1997 Keeneland November mixed sale. She was sold privately to the Rothschild family's Kincorth Investments, Inc., after the birth of her 2007 foal, the Montjeu gelding Monterey. She did not produce a foal in 2014 or 2015 but was bred to New Approach for a 2016 foal; that foal, New Mead, never raced and proved to be her last.
