Mandaloun was clearly a talented horse, but his racing reputation is clouded thanks to the fact that he owes both his Grade 1 wins to disqualifications. The third horse to inherit a Kentucky Derby (USA-G1) win by disqualification and the second to do so because of a drug positive against the winner, Mandaloun was the beneficiary of a disqualifying foul against another rival by apparent winner Hot Rod Charlie in the 2022 TVG.com Haskell Stakes (USA-G1). In fairness to Mandaloun, he lost the Derby on the track by half a length to Medina Spirit and the Haskell by a nose, so there is no questioning that he ran well in both races, especially since Hot Rod Charlie franked the form in his next outing by winning the Pennsylvania Derby (USA-G1). Mandaloun also outfinished Hot Rod Charlie in the Kentucky Derby, so it seems fair to say that the three colts were not far separated on their racing merits. Also the winner of a pair of Grade 2 races, Mandaloun is now a young stallion for breeder-owner Juddmonte Farms.

Pedigree notes
Mandaloun is outcrossed through five generations. He is out of 2015 Ridgewood Pearl Stakes (IRE-G2) winner Brooch, whose half sister Caponata (by Selkirk) was a Group 2-placed multiple listed stakes winner on the racecourse and is the dam of 2024 Oh So Sharp Stakes (ENG-G3) winner Merrily (by No Nay Never).
Brooch was produced from French listed stakes winner Daring Diva (by the good Danehill son Dansili), whose full sister Emulous won the 2011 Matron Stakes (IRE-G1) and is the dam of multiple Group 1 winner Bluestocking (by Camelot), whose victories include the 2024 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (FR-G1). Another full sibling to Daring Diva, First Sitting, won the 2017 Prix Gontaut-Biron (FR-G3). Daring Diva is also a half sister to Awe Struck (by Rail Link), dam of 2019 Preis der Sparkassen Finanzgruppe (GER-G3) winner Alounak (by Camelot).
Daring Diva and her siblings are out of listed stakes-placed Aspiring Diva (by the Group 1-winning Mr. Prospector horse Distant View), whose stakes-winning half sister Ladyago (by Northern Dancer) is the second dam of Grade 3 winner Spring Meadow. The next dam in Mandaloun’s tail-female line, Queen of Song (by His Majesty), won the 1984 Shuvee Handicap (USA-G2) and is a full sister to 1977 Jersey Derby (USA-G1) winner Cormorant, a good sire.

Fun facts
- In architecture, a mandaloun is a type of mullioned window (a window featuring vertical or horizontal bars separating two or more panels in a window pane). Influenced by Florentine architecture, mandalouns became a feature of traditional Lebanese architecture following the 17th-century reign of Fakhr-al-Din II, who brought back artisans from the court of the Medici in Italy following a period of exile in Tuscany.
