5/19/2017

It's time for this year's special Preakness trivia challenge. Can you answer all five questions before post time? All answers can be found somewhere on the website.

1) In what year did the Preakness change from a race run under allowance conditions to one run at level weights of 126 pounds for colts and 121 for fillies?

2) This lucky Preakness winner is the only winner of an American Triple Crown race to have been bred to two mares that earned American Horse of the Year honors. Who is he?

3) Who was the first Preakness winner to be presented with the Woodlawn Vase, considered the most valuable trophy in American sports?

4) This Preakness winner was the first horse to run in all three legs of what is now considered to be the American Triple Crown. Who was he?

5) This Preakness winner helped make his trainer the first to sweep the American Triple Crown series with different horses in the same year. Who was this horse, and who was the stablemate who completed the triple?

In case yesterday's trivia challenge on the Kentucky Oaks hasn't driven you to distraction, here's one on the Classic fillies' masculine counterparts. All answers can be found on the American Classic Pedigrees website.

1) Not all Kentucky Derby winners enjoy lush pastures in Kentucky and the cream of the blue-blooded mares as their mates---this one ended up given away to become a sire of polo ponies. Who was he?

2) Only once have Kentucky Derby winners finished 1-2-3 in the same race. Name the race and its illustrious participants.

3) This Kentucky Derby winner had one of the oddest barn names on record---"Old Pea Head." Name him.

4) Who was the first gelding to win the Kentucky Deby at level weights with the colts?

5) Who was the last Kentucky Derby winner to win the Derby as his first start of his 3-year-old season?

In honor of tomorrow's Longines Kentucky Oaks (USA-I), American Classic Pedigrees presents a five-question trivia challenge. Can anyone answer all the questions before post time tomorrow?

1) Who were the only full sister and brother to win the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby?

2) This Kentucky Oaks champion was the only filly to sweep both the old Filly Triple Crown (Kentucky Oaks, Black-Eyed Susan Stakes, Coaching Club American Oaks) and New York Triple Tiara (Acorn Stakes, Mother Goose Stakes, CCA Oaks). Who was she?

3) The first of four Kentucky Oaks winners for C. V. "Sonny" Whitney, this former claimer later became an important broodmare for Calumet Farm. Who was she?

4) Produced from a champion and a full sister to a champion, this Kentucky Oaks winner was not quite in that class but distinguished herself in the paddocks as the second dam of a Kentucky Derby winner. Who was she?

5) The daughter of one Kentucky Broodmare of the Year, this Kentucky Oaks winner produced another one. Who was she?
