This big, rugged horse was a high-class stayer, but he earned his chief distinction in an unfortunate way as he became the first horse to be disqualified following an apparent victory in a race worth US$100,000 or more. He was an inconsistent sire but did get one stallion son who succeeded in carrying on an important male line. Who was he?

Is it one of my favorites, Dancer's Image?

Dancer's Image produced Godswalk and Saritamer, who were decent sires. Another son was exported to Colombia, Orfanik, where he did alright.

You'll have to go further back in time than Dancer's Image. Try again!

Yes, Intent is the horse. He was disqualified from victory in the 1952 Santa Anita Handicap and is the sire of 1959 American champion sprinter Intentionally, whose son In Reality is the only remaining conduit of significance for the Man o' War male line.

When it wasn't Dancer's Image I speculated that my best chance would be the Big Cap.
