Although Margaret Lawrence was no great race mare, she was much the best-bred and best-credentialed mare in Herbert Woolf's broodmare band, and she took full advantage of repeat matings to his good stallion Insco to become the best broodmare ever based in the state of Kansas and an excellent broodmare even by Kentucky standards. While her champion daughter Unerring was able to continue her female family, it is worth speculating how much more of an impact Margaret Lawrence might have had if more of her daughters had been in the hands of major Kentucky breeders; as it was, most of them had little access to good stallions and their broodmare careers reflected this lack.

Connections
Margaret Lawrence was bred by Henry T. Oxnard. She produced her first two foals (which included the stakes winner Lawley) for John E. Madden and her third, the stakes winner Modern Times, for Donegal Farms. The remainder of her foals were bred by Herbert Woolf at his Woolford Farm in Kansas after Woolf bought her for US$2,000 from the 1929 Lexington November sales.
Pedigree notes
Sired by the good French stakes winner Vulcain (a son of Rock Sand), Margaret Lawrence is inbred 5x5 to 1860 St. Leger Stakes winner St. Albans and to the good broodmare Ellermire. She is a half sister to 1914 Futurity Stakes winner Trojan (by Sir Wilfred) and a half sister to Pyrope (by Sir Wilfred), dam of the minor stakes winner Undercover (by Under Fire).
Margaret Lawrence's dam Bohemia (by Wagner) won two stakes races and is a full sister to multiple stakes winner Colonel Wagner. She is also a half sister to Elise B. (by Prince Royal), dam of multiple juvenile stakes winner Kaiser (by Cesarion) and second dam of Pimlico Cup winners Captain Alcock (1922) and Rockminster (1925) as well as the good juvenile filly Tragedy. Another half sister to Bohemia, Amy Davenport (by Leonatus) is the dam of stakes winners Any Port (by Star Shoot) and Nones (by Sir Dixon). A third of Bohemia's half sisters, Bettie Bramble (by Bramble), is the dam of 1907 Queens County Handicap winner W. H. Carey (by Ed Farrell).
Mattie T., the dam of Bohemia and her siblings, is by Billet out of Jaconet (by Leamington out of the great American matriarch Maggie B. B.) and, thus, is a full sister to 1888 American co-champion 3-year-old male Sir Dixon and the good stakes winner Belvedere. Mattie T. is also a half sister to The Niece (by Alarm), dam of the good racer and sire Uncle (by Star Shoot), and to Lady Pepper (by Hindoo), dam of 1902 Alabama Stakes winner Par Excellence (by Kantaka).

Margaret Lawrence produced 12 named foals, all winners. Her important foals are as follow:
- Lawley (1925, by Sir Martin) won the 1928 Great Western Handicap. He does not appear to have stood at stud in North America.
- Modern Times (1928, by Pataud) won the 1931 Speers Handicap. She produced only two foals, neither of any importance.
- Lawrin (1935, by Insco) won the 1938 Kentucky Derby and Flamingo Stakes. He sired only two stakes winners from 90 named foals but in fairness did not receive opportunities commensurate with his racing class.
- Unerring (1936, by Insco) was the American co-champion 3-year-old filly of 1939. From only three named foals, she produced 1947 Preakness Stakes winner Faultless (by Bull Lea) and Tige O'Myheart (by Bull Lea) dam of two-time American champion filly Idun, 1959 Saratoga Special winner Irish Lancer and minor stakes winner Honor Bright, all by Royal Charger. Tige O'Myheart is the second dam of four stakes winners including 1970 Laurance Armour Handicap winner Indian Emerald.
- Inscolassie (1937, by Insco) won the 1940 Kentucky Oaks but was a disappointing broodmare although all six of her named foals were winners.
- Spring Glory (1941, by Bow to Me) produced the minor stakes winner Glory Glory (by War Glory).
