Miss Alleged (USA)

March 22, 1987 – February 28, 2008

Alleged (USA) x Miss Tusculum (USA), by Boldnesian (USA)

Family 5-i

Miss Alleged was a high-class staying mare who raced primarily in France and the United States. Although hampered by physical issues during her racing career, she showed good form in France and became a champion in the USA by winning the Breeders’ Cup Turf (USA-G1) and the Hollywood Turf Cup (USA-G1), both against males. She was a much more successful racer than broodmare.

1990:
  • Won Prix de Malleret (FR-G2, 2400mT, Longchamp)
  • Won Prix de Royaumont (FR-G3, 2200mT, Longchamp)

Rated at 122 pounds on the Daily Racing Form's Free Handicap for American turf females of 1992, 3 pounds below champion Flawlessly.

As an individual

A tall, rangy, attractive bay mare with an excellent shoulder, Miss Alleged was built much in the mold of her staying sire. She was said to have been notably intelligent. She fractured an ankle during the running of the 1990 Prix Vermeille, necessitating surgery, and bled during the running of the 1991 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (FR-G1).

As a producer

Miss Alleged produced 13 named foals of racing age, of which eight started and three won. Her only foal of any importance thus far is the 1998 Gone West mare Zghorta, a Group 3-placed listed stakes winner in France. Zghorta is the second dam of Group 1-placed French Group 3 winner Zghorta Dance (by Le Havre).

Connections

Foaled in Kentucky, Miss Alleged was bred by Carl M. Freeman and then sold to Issam M. Fares for US$250,000 through the 1988 Keeneland July yearling sale. She was initially trained under Pascal Bary and was ridden to her Breeders’ Cup Turf win by Éric Legrix. Following her Breeders’ Cup Turf win, she was sent to California to train with Charlie Whittingham. After her retirement from racing, she became a broodmare for her owner. In 1998, she was sold through the 1998 Keeneland November mixed sale for US$1 million, in foal to Spinning World, but this was apparently a buy-back as her remaining foals were bred by either Fares Farm or Fares’s French breeding facility, Haras de Manneville. Miss Alleged was euthanized due to complications of foaling on February 28, 2008.

Pedigree notes

Miss Alleged is outcrossed through five generations. She is a half sister to multiple stakes winners Bold Josh (by Tentam) and Nancy’s Champion (by Northern Jove). She is also a half sister to stakes-placed Heaven Knows (by Quadrangle), dam of New York restricted stakes winners Heaven Knows Why (by Star de Naskra) and Carr Heaven (by Carr de Naskra), and to Arctic Deb (by Northerly), dam of 1986 Hollywood Juvenile Championship Stakes (USA-G2) winner Captain Valid (by Valid Appeal) and stakes winner Final Connection (by Alleged).
