A scion of a distinguished female family, Oatsee was stakes-placed on the track but came into her full heritage in the breeding shed, where she produced five stakes winners, two of them at the Grade 1 level. The 2011 Kentucky Broodmare of the Year, her long-term influence remains to be seen.
Race record
21 starts, 2 wins, 4 seconds, 5 thirds, US$106,945
2001:
As an individual
A big, attractive chestnut mare with a great deal of scope and substance, a well laid shoulder, and a strong, straight hind leg, Oatsee was on the quirky side temperamentally and tended to transmit this to her foals. Her biggest quirk was that when turned out, she would try to bolt the instant she saw the gate to the paddock opened, a habit that posed an injury risk to anyone still holding her lead rope. She was a somewhat slow-maturing type, taking 12 tries to break her maiden.
As a producer
A Reine-de-Course as designated by pedigree analyst Ellen Parker, Oatsee has produced 17 named foals, of which 13 have started and 10 have won. Her important foals are as follow:
Connections
Foaled in Kentucky, Oatsee was bred and owned by Bentley L. Smith. She was trained by Carl Nafzger. In 2006, she sold to Belvedere Farm on behalf of Michael Lauffer and William Cubbedge for US$135,000 at the Keeneland January mixed sale, in foal to Langfuhr. (Belvedere Farm, owned by Marty Takacs, leased the land used for its operations from Lauffer.) Offered in foal to A.P. Indy at the 2008 Keeneland November sale, she sold for US$1.55 million to My Meadowview Farm. She was most recently reported as barren for 2020 and 2021 after producing the Into Mischief colt King of Truth in 2019.
Pedigree notes
Oatsee is inbred 4x4 to 1968 Metropolitan Handicap winner In Reality and 5x5 to 1955 American Horse of the Year Nashua. She is a full sister to Mille Lacs, second dam of 2017 Champagne Stakes (USA-G1) winner Firenze Fire.

With Every Wish is also a half sister to Aim for the Moon (by Deputy Minister), dam of 2014 Korean champion imported 3-year-old filly New York Blue (by Candy Ride).

P Jet (by Fappiano) and My Earl (by Chieftain). The next dam in Oatsee’s tail-temale line is Taminette (In Reality x Tamerett), a full sister to 1980 Two Thousand Guineas (ENG-G1) winner Known Fact and a half sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Tentam (by Intentionally; a good sire), Grade 2 winner Terete (by Boldnesian), and stakes winners Tamtent (by Intentionally) and Secrettame (by Secretariat; dam of 1987 Dwyer Handicap, USA-G1) winner and important sire Gone West and Grade 2 winner Lion Cavern to covers by Mr. Prospector). Fun facts
- Oatsee’s breeder/owner Bentley Smith was intimately connected with her background. The son-in-law of Frances Genter, he acted as agent for his mother-in-law when she purchased Unbridled as a weanling from the 1987 John Nerud/Tartan Farm dispersal, and he managed Genter’s racing stable.
