One of the better juvenile fillies of 1970, Patelin proved even better as a broodmare, though it took until her daughters had gotten well into their production careers for her true worth to be seen. She was successful as a dam of winners with two stakes winners to her credit but was still more successful as a dam of broodmares, with no fewer than seven daughters who achieved some significance.

Fun facts
- “Patelin” means “little place” in French and refers to a tiny village or hamlet—the sort of place that might be termed a “one-horse town” in American slang. The name may also be derived from the title character of the French comic play Master Patelin, Solicitor, an 18th-century farce written by Jean Palaprat Brueys. Highly popular in its day, Brueys' three-act play was adapted from an earlier one-act production.
