Connections
Penny Post was bred by Haras Chapadmalal (Jose A. Martínez de Hoz). He was owned by Caballeriza La Giralda and trained by Guillermo Cervi. Following his racing career, Penny Post was entered into a Tattersall's auction and was purchased by a syndicate of Argentine breeders headed by Haras Las Ortigas (Ignacio Correas), Haras Chapadmalal, and Haras El Moro. In later life, he stood in Chile and then was exported to Peru, where he was owned by the Jockey Club del Peru. His last foals appear to have been registered in 1969.
Pedigree notes
Penny Post is inbred 5x5x5 to nine-time English/Irish champion sire St. Simon, the unbeaten winner of the 1884 Ascot Gold Cup. He was produced from Encomienda, whose sire Parwiz (by Phalaris) won the City and Suburban Handicap. Encomienda’s dam Estampilla is by 1908 Newmarket Stakes winner and four-time Argentine champion sire Saint Wolf out of Espatula, a daughter of the great Argentine racehorse and sire Old Man. The female line traces back to Argentine foundation mare Ante Diem.

Fun facts
- Penny Post finished first in the 1949 Gran Premio Carlos Pellegrini but was disqualified because his jockey, thinking the winning post already past, threw his cap in the air before the actual finish line had been crossed; the victory was awarded to second-place finisher Cruz Montiel.
- When Penny Post was auctioned off following his racing career, so many people came to attend the sale that it had to be moved to the grandstand of a nearby racetrack to accommodate the crowd.
