Polite Lady was sired by a failed racehorse, but she came from a female family that had demonstrated the ability to turn out nice runners from matings to stallions from off the beaten path. She lived up to that heritage by winning seven of her nine starts, including four stakes events. As a broodmare, she gained further honors as she won a Sovereign Award as the Canadian Broodmare of the Year for 1988 based on the exploits of her champion son Afleet (the 1987 Canadian Horse of the Year and a Grade 1-placed graded stakes winner in 1988) and his stakes-winning half brother Matter of Honor. Unfortunately, Polite Lady had only one producing daughter, who failed to distinguish herself as a broodmare.

Polite Lady is also a half sister to stakes-placed Friendly Princess (by Irish Dude), second dam of Grade 3 winner Rapid Selection, and to Gregale (by Grey Dawn II), second dam of Brazilian Group 3 winner Venerado. In addition, she is a half sister to Friendly Face (by Star de Naskra), dam of multiple listed stakes winner My Son Bill (by Miswaki).
