The first filly to win both the Gran Premio Selección (Argentine Oaks) and Gran Premio Nacional (Argentine Derby), Porteña gained her honors in the latter race in a dead heat with the colt General Lavalle. At least three of her sons are known to have stood at stud, but she was not as good a broodmare as she was a racer.

1894:
As an individual
A chestnut mare; no further information available.
As a producer
Porteña produced at least five named foals. Her daughter Plaisanterie (by Buenos Aires) is the dam of Nutria (by Innocence), winner of the Clásico Diana in Uruguay.
Connections
Porteña was bred by Haras Las Rosas, the breeding operation of Guillermo Kemmis. She was owned by José Zubiaurre's Haras Buenos Aires.
Pedigree notes
Porteña is inbred 5x4 to Ion (a juvenile stakes winner who was second in the 1838 Derby Stakes and St. Leger Stakes) and 5x5 to Gladiator (the Derby Stakes runner-up of 1836 and an important sire in France). She is a full sister to Caprichosa, second dam of 1918 Polla de Potrillos (Argentine Two Thousand Guineas) winner Caricato (by Craganour).
Portena is out of the English import Delicia, who was sent to Argentina in 1889. Sired by Liverpool Autumn Cup winner Vanderdecken, Delicia was produced from Moonbeam, a daughter of 1855 Derby Stakes winner Wild Dayrell who also ended up being exported to Argentina. The next dam in the tail-female line, Cynthia, was sired by Ireland's greatest racehorse of the 19th century, Harkaway, out of Lady Barbara (by 1840 St. Leger Stakes winner Launcelot).
