A royally-bred homebred who showed marked promise from the outset of her career for Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s Godolphin operation, Pretty Mischievous lived up to that promise by becoming the first Kentucky Oaks (USA-G1) winner for one of the world’s great racing and breeding operations. Voted the champion of her crop in the United States after winning three Grade 1 races in 2023, Pretty Mischievous raced creditably at 4 without adding any more stakes wins and was retired to the broodmare ranks.

As an individual
A solidly made bay filly with excellent all-around conformation and a long stride, Pretty Mischievous has an attractive, feminine head. While she lasted to win the 9-furlong Kentucky Oaks, she was better at shorter distances. She had a tendency to wait on other horses when alone on the lead. She was eager to train and was a determined runner on the racetrack.
As a producer
Pretty Mischievous began her broodmare career in 2025.
Connections
Foaled in Kentucky, Pretty Mischievous was bred and owned by Godolphin. She was trained by Brendan Walsh and was ridden to her Kentucky Oaks win by Tyler Gaffalione. She was officially retired after running fifth in the Clement L. Hirsch Stakes (USA-G1) in August 2024.
Pedigree notes
Pretty Mischievous is outcrossed through five generations. She is out of Pretty City Dancer, who dead-heated with Sweet Loretta for the 2016 Spinaway Stakes (USA-G1). Pretty City Dancer is a half sister to 2007 Gazelle Stakes (USA-G1) winner Lear’s Princess (by Lear Fan).
Pretty City (by Carson City), the dam of Pretty City Dancer, never raced but is a half sister to 1988 Bernard Baruch Handicap (USA-G1) winner My Big Boy (by Our Hero) and to multiple listed stakes winner Forever Command (by Top Command). Pretty City is also a half sister to Oh So Pretty (by Spend a Buck), dam of multiple Venezuelan listed stakes winner Rey Canelo (by Alhajras), and to Cubby (by Brocco), dam of stakes winner Howdy Kingkowboy (by Kodiak Kowboy).
Pretty City and her siblings are out of Pretty Special (by Riverman), who failed to place in her two races. She is a half sister to 1987 Premio d’Estate (ITY-G3) winner Oh So Snobish (by Quadratic) and to multiple English stakes winner Oh So Choosy (by Top Command). Produced from the stakes-winning Forli mare Snobishness (a half sister to four other stakes winners), Pretty Special is also a half sister to Quexine (by Sir Gaylord), dam of multiple listed stakes winners Quexion (by Young Generation) and Quexioss (by Ardross). The female line traces back to La Troienne through her granddaughter Her Duchess (by Blenheim II), a half sister to Busanda.

Fun facts
- In the Test Stakes, Pretty Mischievous was trailing Maple Leaf Mel by three lengths when the New York-bred filly suffered a catastrophic breakdown in the shadow of the wire. Pretty Mischievous ran by her stricken rival for the win, but in light of the events, Godolphin staff elected not to have a winner’s circle picture taken. Following the race, trainer Brendan Walsh sent Pretty Mischievous’s victory wreath to Maple Leaf Mel’s trainer, Melanie Giddings, in tribute to her fallen star.
