Princequillo (IRE) x Dancing Dora (USA), by Sir Gallahad III (FR)
American Family 11
Just one year after the infamous Jersey Act was rescinded, Prince Simon put an exclamation point on the decision by being rated the best 3-year-old male in England despite belonging to an American female family that would have had him classed as a “half-bred” two years earlier. His successes, as well as those of Princequillo’s American-based son Hill Prince (the 1950 American Horse of the Year), helped Princequillo vault from being an unfashionable stallion to entering the top echelon of American breeding. That was Prince Simon’s primary contribution to Thoroughbred breeding as he was a poor foal-getter and sired only 37 foals, none of any great significance.
Race record

As an individual
A handsome, rangy bay horse, Prince Simon stood 17 hands.
As a stallion
Prince Simon was markedly subfertile and sired only 37 named foals and 23 winners (62.2%), of which the best was his sole stakes winner, Tremor.
Connections
Foaled in Virginia, Prince Simon was bred and owned by William Woodward Sr.’s Belair Stud. He was trained by Captain Cecil Boyd-Rochfort, who was knighted in 1968 for his feats as a Thoroughbred trainer.

Dancing Dora is also a half sister to 1932 American co-champion 3-year-old male Faireno (by Chatterton); to 1938 Louisiana Derby winner Wise Fox (by Gallant Fox); and to 1939 Delaware Oaks winner Wise Lady (by Gallant Fox), second dam of 1964 Canadian Oaks winner Later Mel and the good juvenile Melson. In addition, Dancing Dora is a half sister to Lady Minerva (by Gallant Fox), dam of the minor stakes winner Four Sisters (by Four Freedoms).
Minerva, the dam of Dancing Dora, failed to win in four tries but is a half sister to multiple stakes winner William Tell (by Rock View). Sired by 1913 July Stakes winner Ambassador IV, she is out of Arrowshaft (Ogden x Quiver, by Faustus), a half sister to 1901 Matron Stakes winner Heno (by Henry Young) and juvenile stakes winner Rustling Silk (by Mirthful).
