Slow to reach his best form, Private Account was the king of the 1980 Florida winter season but was felled by injury before he could challenge the biggest guns in the handicap division and was not the same when he attempted a brief comeback in the fall. He became a good stallion after his retirement and the primary conduit for the male line of Teddy in North America.

Rated at 119 pounds on the Daily Racing Form's Free Handicap for American older males of 1980, 17 pounds below divisional champion and Horse of the Year Spectacular Bid.
As an individual
Private Account stood 16.1 hands. A powerful, short-coupled, well-balanced bay horse, he was leggy and had a good hip and shoulder. Like his sire, he had hocks that were slightly sickled. He was hampered by illnesses and injuries through much of his racing career but was game and determined when fit to race. He won his best races by launching a strong drive from off the pace.
As a stallion
According to records kept by The Jockey Club, Private Account sired 356 winners (58.9%) and 57 stakes winners (9.4%) from 604 named foals. The Blood-Horse credits Private Account with 61 stakes winners (10.1%).
