New Dandy (USA) x Pulina (ARG), by Francis U. (USA)
Family 9-g
First-rate as a 2-year-old, Pulma finished 10th when sent after the classic Polla de Potrancas (ARG-G1) and struggled for the rest of her 3-year-old season. She finally earned a Group 3 win at the beginning of her 4-year-old year but after that failed to win above the allowance level, although she picked up several Group placings. She bred eight winners but none of particular importance, though her daughter Mapul Wells became a good broodmare.

Her one important foal is Mapul Wells (2002, by Poliglote), the dam of 2014 Gran Premio Gilberto Lerena (ARG-G1) winner Malacostumbrada (by Lizard Island), in turn the dam of 2019 Japanese champion 2-year-old filly Resistencia (by Daiwa Major) and Japanese Group 3 winner Gratias (by Heart’s Cry).
Connections
Foaled at Haras San Andres, Pulma was bred by Francisco Lococo. She raced in the silks of Caballeriza Happy End. As a broodmare, she was owned by Haras Firmamento.
Pedigree notes
Sired by 1982 Argentine Horse of the Year New Dandy, Pulma is outcrossed through five generations. She is a half sister to Pulinia (by Search Tradition), second dam of Argentine Group 2 winner Puliao.
Pulma is out of stakes winner Pulina (by 1967 Donn Handicap winner Francis U.), a half sister to 1979 Argentine champion 2-year-old male Pulines and to Pulposa, dam of 1989 Gran Premio Enrique Acebal (ARG-G1) winner Pulpa (by New Dandy) and second dam of three-time Ecuadorean champion Mr. Push. Pulina and her siblings are out of Pulidez, who was sired by 1953 Jockey Club Gold Cup winner Level Lea out of Pulgada (by 1954 Gran Premio Carlos Pellegrini winner Jungle King). The female line traces back to the English import Ante Diem, a great South American foundation mare.
