April 29, 1986 – October 14, 2016
Fappiano (USA) x Demure (USA), by Dr. Fager (USA)
Family 16-a
Closely inbred to 1968 American Horse of the Year Dr. Fager, Quiet American showed some of his famous ancestor's speed on the track, winning the NYRA Mile (USA-G1) and defeating the great mare Bayakoa in the San Diego Handicap (USA-G3). He became a good sire for the Maktoum family while standing at Gainsborough Stud and Darley's Kentucky division. He also managed to hand on his male line to his champion son Real Quiet, who died relatively young but not before passing the torch to his champion son Midnight Lute.
Race record
12 starts, 4 wins, 3 seconds, 1 third, US$754,419
1990:
Assessments
Rated at 120 pounds on the Daily Racing Form's Free Handicap for American older males of 1990, 8 pounds below co-highweights Easy Goer and Sunday Silence and 7 pounds below official divisional champion and Horse of the Year Criminal Type.
As an individual
A lengthy, rugged-looking bay horse standing 16.1-1/4 hands, Quiet American was workmanlike and plain rather than elegant. He maintained his physical vigor well into his old age and was an easy keeper who enjoyed human attention.
As a stallion
According to statistics compiled by The Jockey Club, Quiet American sired 615 winners (60.7%) and 55 stakes winners (5.4%) from 1014 named foals. He tended to sire good-sized, rangy, durable individuals with plenty of substance.
