Native Dancer (USA) x Raise You (USA), by Case Ace (USA)
Family 8-f
A brilliantly fast juvenile, Raise a Native made such an impression in his four starts that he shared the juvenile championship of 1961 with Hurry to Market. He never raced again but became an important sire and sire of sires in spite of a tendency to transmit his own heavy-topped build. His male line persists primarily through Mr. Prospector.
Race record
4 starts, 4 wins, 0 seconds, 0 thirds, US$45,955
1963:
Honors
American co-champion 2-year-old male (1963)
Assessments
Highweighted at 126 pounds on the Experimental Free Handicap for American juveniles of 1963, one pound above co-champion juvenile male Hurry to Market.
As an individual
A chestnut horse, Raise a Native stood 16.1-1/2 hands. Although he was rather long-bodied for his height, he was short-coupled and muscular with good bone, a long pelvis, and extremely strong quarters. He was a bit heavy-bodied for his legs and had sickle hocks. He was said to have had a good temperament as a racehorse. At stud, he loved human attention and seemed to enjoy showing off for visitors.
As a stallion
According to statistics kept by The Jockey Club, Raise a Native sired 434 winners (50.3%) and 77 stakes winners (8.9%) from 863 named foals. Thoroughbred Times credits him with 78 stakes winners. His colts were generally more impressive than his fillies but, like their sire, tended to become too heavy-topped for their underpinnings. Other common conformation issues among his progeny were upright pasterns, offset knees and turned-out forefeet. Raise a Native is a Brilliant chef-de-race in the Roman-Miller dosage system.

Connections
Foaled in Kentucky at Bosque Bonita Farm, Raise a Native was bred by Mr. & Mrs. Cortright Wetherill's Happy Hill Farm. He was sold to Mrs. E. H. Augustus at the 1961 Keeneland fall mixed sale for US$22,000, then a record for a weanling at public auction. She, in turn, sold him to Louis Wolfson's Harbor View Farm, which purchased the colt for US$39,000 at the 1962 Saratoga yearling sale. Raise a Native was trained by Burley Parke. He bowed a tendon in August of his juvenile season, forcing his retirement. Raise a Native entered stud at Harbor View in 1964 and in 1968 moved to Spendthrift Farm, where he was humanely destroyed in 1988 due to deterioration of his spine.
