Like his dam Desert Vixen, Real Shadai did not show much at 2 but matured into a good 3-year-old, though he never rose to championship class. At the end of his racing career, he was sent to Japan, where he became a good stallion.

Foaled in Kentucky, Real Shadai was bred by Franklin Groves’ North Ridge Farm. A US$360,000 yearling purchase from the 1980 Keeneland July sale, he was owned by Zenya Yoshida. He was trained by John Cunnington Jr. He stood his entire stud career at the Yoshida family’s Shadai Stallion Station in Japan. He was pensioned in 2000 and died of complications of laminitis in May 2004.
