A chestnut horse, Regal Classic bore a strong resemblance to his sire Vice Regent. He had a good shoulder and powerful hindquarters with a long, sloping hip. He stood 16 hands.

Regal Classic led the New York state sire list in 2002 and 2003. According to statistics kept by The Jockey Club, he sired 623 winners (62.9%) and 47 stakes winners (4.7%) from 990 foals of racing age.

Foaled in Ontario, Regal Classic was bred and owned by Sam-Son Farms. He was trained by Jim Day. He entered stud in 1990 in Kentucky at Prestonwood Farm. He was pensioned from stud duty in 2007 after standing the last part of his career at McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds near Saratoga Springs, New York. He was humanely destroyed in April 2012 after emergency medical evaluation disclosed a large mass in his large intestine.
