Remanso (ARG)

1914 – 1929?

The Whirlpool (GB) x Valliere (ARG), by Val d'Or (FR)

Family 1-r

Widely considered second only to the great Botafogo among the colts of his crop in Argentina, Remanso was a better colt than a bare reading of his race record would indicate. He vindicated the high opinion held of his racing ability by becoming only the second Argentine-bred stallion to lead the Argentine general sire list.

é. He was trained by Rufino Coll. He stood at Haras La Oriental.

Pedigree notes

Remanso is inbred 4x3x5 to 1875 Derby Stakes winner and three-time English/Irish champion sire Galopin. He is also inbred 5x5 to 1851 St. Leger Stakes winner and two-time English/Irish champion sire Newminster. Sired by the Ayrshire horse The Whirlpool, he was produced from Valliere, a daughter of 1896 Polla de Potrancas (Argentine One Thousand Guineas) winner Little Darling (by St. Mirin). Little Darling, in turn, was produced from the Bend Or mare Darling, whose dam Periwig (by Macaroni) is a half sister to 1877 Derby Stakes and St. Leger Stakes winner Silvio (by Blair Athol).
