Roy was better than an empty stall as a racehorse, but he was a long way below the best of his crop in ability, not even rated on the Experimental Free Handicap in spite of having earned a Grade 2 stakes placing and never being out of the money in four starts at 2. He failed to move forward at 3 and was retired after placing only once from three starts at 4. Sent to stud in Chile, he outbred himself time and again, proving to be the greatest stallion in that country’s history and a champion sire in Argentina as well. He was not as successful during five seasons at Darby Dan Farm in Kentucky but did well during a single shuttle season in Brazil.
