One of the best racing sons of 2001 European and American champion 2-year-old male Johannesburg, Scat Daddy was well on his way to establishing himself as one of the top sires in both North and South America when he died suddenly in December 2015. The 11-year-old stallion left behind a legacy of versatility reminiscent of Mr. Prospector, to whom he was inbred.

As an individual
A handsome, good-bodied dark bay or brown horse, Scat Daddy stood 16.1 hands. He had a good shoulder and exceptionally powerful hindquarters. He preferred to close from off the pace when racing. He retired from racing in June 2007 after suffering a tendon tear during the running of the Kentucky Derby (USA-G1). Scat Daddy had a rambunctious disposition but could be bribed with peppermints.
As a stallion
Scat Daddy sired 792 winners (68.3%) and 136 stakes winners (11.7%) from 1159 named foals of racing age according to statistics compiled by The Jockey Club. His progeny were typically powerful and well-muscled with both speed and a strong desire to win.
