Like many of the progeny of Ghostzapper, Shaman Ghost needed time to develop. He matured into a champion in Canada at 3 and continued on as a top racehorse in the United States at ages 4 and 5. He lacked the blinding turn of foot that had characterized his sire but was an honest and consistent runner who liked a distance of ground—unfortunately, traits not usually rewarded in the North American stallion market.

Connections
Shaman Ghost was bred in Kentucky by Adena Springs. He was owned by Stronach Stables and was trained by Jimmy Jerkens. He was ridden to his Queen’s Plate score by Rafael Manuel Hernandez. He entered stud in California in 2018 at Tommy Town Thoroughbreds, a move based on Frank Stronach’s desire to support the California-bred program. In 2019, he relocated to Adena Springs’s Kentucky operation. He now stands at Adena Springs North in Ontario.
Pedigree notes
Shaman Ghost is inbred 3x5 to the good stallion Relaunch and 5x4 to the great international sire Northern Dancer, the 1964 Canadian Horse of the Year and American champion 3-year-old male. He is out of listed stakes-placed Getback Time, who was produced from multiple stakes winner Shay (by the stakes-placed Northern Dancer horse Incinderator). Shay’s half sister Undressed (by Black Tie Affair) is the dam of multiple restricted stakes winner Bestdressed (by Lit de Justice), and another half sister, French Lady (by French Deputy), is the dam of Grade 3 winner Deputy G (by Matty G).
Shay and her siblings are out of the stakes-winning Skywalker mare Lookin Like a Lady, a full sister to 1995 Mexican champion 2-year-old filly Cinefila and a half sister to Glorita (by Honour and Glory), dam of restricted stakes winner Gaston (by Count the Time). The next dam in Shaman Ghost’s tail-female line, Tenedora (by the unraced Riva Ridge horse Knoll), is a half sister to multiple stakes winners Cuchillo (by Blade) and Solamente Un Vez (by Relaunch).
