Connections
Singspiel was bred and owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum. He was trained by Sir Michael Stoute. He entered stud in 1998 at Dalham Hall Stud near Newmarket, England. He shuttled to Australia for the Southern Hemisphere breeding season in 2001 as well. He was humanely destroyed in 2010 due to laminitis following a long illness. Had he lived, he would probably have been pensioned as his fertility had been adversely affected and seemed unlikely to recover.

Fun facts
- Singspiel drew his name from a form of German-language musical drama which alternates spoken dialogue with songs. Considered a genre of opera, singspiel arose in the 18th century. It is typically comic in nature and often draws on folk music motifs and styles.
- The Singspiel Stakes is contested at Woodbine as a Grade 3 race for horses aged 3 and up. As of 2023, it is carded at 10 furlongs on turf. Singspiel is also honored by a Group 2 race in Dubai.
- Singspiel is one of two horses to have won an Eclipse Award without having won a stakes race in the United States. The other is Trillion, who earned her Eclipse Award in the 1979 turf female division with four second-place finishes in Grade 1 races, all against males. Ironically, Singspiel was not eligible for a Sovereign Award in the year of his Eclipse championship because he did not make the requisite three starts in Canada.
